From giving up to selling 190 books on launch day

Hi Reader,

This month, my author client Melanie Crane sold 190 copies of her first book on launch day. Yet less than a year ago, she'd pretty much given up on her dream of becoming an author. Fortunately, she reached out to me before letting her book dream die.

When Melanie reached out to me last March, she had a partial rough draft, a clear and powerful message, and plenty of people begging her to finish her book so they could learn from her. But she had hit a dead end.

"It lacks good flow and I am missing a lot of my own voice," she told me, handing over her work in progress for me to review. "I really need to finish this book but I have to do it in a way that doesn't create anxiety. I feel like I have taken it as far as I can."

Pouring over her manuscript, I could see so much potential, and I knew just how to fix her book. What she'd already written was good stuff, but she was trying to force her message into an acronym framework that just didn't work. The chapters were individually awesome but not presented in the right order, and the book lacked her own stories.

She was holding back her voice, and I knew that if I could help her share more of her incredible story, it would breathe life into the book. She intuitively knew what her readers needed; she just needed the confidence to be vulnerable and some solid writing techniques to help her translate everything in her heart and mind into words on the page.

So we got to work.

After a deep review, I came back with a new structure and chapter flow. Together, we took her rough draft and reshaped it, using what she'd already written, adding transitions between ideas, and stories from her journey from an elite gymnast with Olympic dreams to a wildly successful real estate broker and personal development coach.

As she rewrote her book, she also opened a new real estate brokerage, launched a TV show, and underwent massive personal growth—all of which she poured back into her book. As her book evolved, she did too. We worked with her busy schedule to make sure her book got finished without causing anxiety or stress.

By the end of the summer, she'd finished her manuscript and I referred her to an incredible woman I know who helps authors with the publishing steps. She turned to me for feedback on her back cover copy, and pretty soon, had a beautiful cover design that she loved.

On January 8th she launched her book.

Thank goodness she didn't give up! Her book, The Fulfillment Formula, is about resilience, living in alignment with one's values, and even neuroscience that helps people "step off the cycle of overachieving and start living with intention." It's a message many people need right now.

Melanie's story is a shining example of what happens when you have the right help at the right time. When she ran into a brick wall, she found someone who knew exactly what to do fix everything.
