The secret to a strong book

Hi Reader,

When you publish a book, it is out there in the world, connecting with readers whether you’re sleeping, walking the dog, delivering a keynote address at a live conference, or snorkelling in the Great Barrier Reef.

With a book, you don’t have to rely on social media algorithms for visibility. Your book is always busy working for you, changing lives and nurturing a relationship with your readers. Books can open doors you didn’t even know existed.

So let's talk about your specific reasons for wanting to write a book. After all, a clear WHY leads to a strong book!

Maybe you want to write your story to pass down to your children, for example. Maybe you have a particular skill people are always asking you to teach them.

Maybe you want to use your book as a marketing tool for your existing business. My clients use their books to launch speaking careers, get media attention, grow their email lists, build platform audiences, find new clients for their coaching programs and online courses, and attract new members to their online communities.

One of my author-coaching clients wrote about how she rebuilt her life after an abusive marriage. She had no monetary goal; she just wanted to help other women escape abusive relationships and rebuild their lives. After her book was published, she told me that the writing process had a profound impact on her healing and led her to her life's true purpose. She eventually launched an online community for domestic abuse survivors so she could help more people. Her book changed her life and is still changing the lives of her readers. Incredible!

The cool thing is, once you've published your book, it will be accessible to anyone, anytime, and anywhere in the world if you choose.

This is why I say a book is worth a thousand marketing platforms.

Whatever your reasons for wanting to write it, imagine holding your published book in your hands for the first time. Carry that image with you as you take your newfound best book idea and embark on the writing journey—it will inspire you to keep writing and see your book through to the finish line.

I've had the joy of watching my clients unbox their advance copies many times—the looks on their faces when they see their books for the first time is priceless! Joy, pride, relief, delight—becoming an author is a huge accomplishment. I'd love to see you experience it, too.

Whatever you do, don't let your dream of writing a book slip away.

Hi Reader, When the world goes mad and there's so much uncertainty, it can be so hard to stay focused on our dreams and goals. But one thing I always remember is... "The pen is mightier than the sword," as Edward Bulwer-Lytton once wrote. Right now, we writers have a wonderful tool at our disposal. We can turn to our journals to sort our thoughts and unload our fears and worries. But we can also write words that help others, too. Through books, essays, blogs, and more, we can share words of...

Hi Reader, Time and time again, creative pursuits have been my sanctuary. As a kid, I found privacy in a busy household of six by escaping to my room every night with a pot of tea and just write or sketch elaborate ballgown designs. We also had a hobby farm, and I hated the early mornings lugging five-gallon pails of water for the animals, raising animals only to eat them (it traumatized me—I love animals, and could not detach myself emotionally. To this day I don't eat meat.). My mom taught...
